Hamburg-born Ghanaian midfielder Braydon Manu says he was overcome by emotions when he was told that he had been handed an invitation to play for the Black Stars of Ghana.

The Darmstadt 98 player says he thinks he did not deserve the Ghana national team call up as he has barely played for his lower tier German side.

Manu was handed his maiden call up by Black Stars coach C.K Akonnor after series of withdrawals hit the national team following clubs preventing their players from traveling to COVID-19 red listed countries.

Speaking in an interview with Ahotor FM, the midfielder says the he thought the Ghana national team call was a scam when it came.

“It came like nothing, I was surprised because I thought it was fake, I didn’t believe it. The technical director (Bernhard Lippert) called to tell me and I was happy but still I was like how?

“To be honest, I hadn’t played that much to earn the call up but then I told myself maybe they had seen something in me that other people hadn’t seen,” Braydon Manu has shard.
He continued, “So this was the thing I said and after that Coach (CK Akonnor) called me, and step by step that was it. They told me they are watching me. And the next day Alex Asante was calling asking for my passport and told me they needed my passport because they wanted me to come to the National team.

“I was like wow, God is good, and I told him I am not having a passport. I only have a German passport.”

Despite being named on the bench of the Ghana Black Stars for the Ethiopia and South Africa matches, he did not get the chance to mark his debut.
