'I wish Sarkodie has the backing of a major record label' - George Britton
18th July 2024
"I wish Sarkodie has the backing of a major label," GB Records CEO, George Britton has expressed, while highlighting the immense opportunities and prestige it would bring to the Ghanaian rap star, as well as the positive impact on Ghana's image.
Speaking on ClassFM’s Morning Show (CMS) with Prince Benjamin (PB), Britton acknowledged Sarkodie's achievements but pondered, "Is his name as widely recognized globally as Burna Boy’s?"
"Walking the streets of London, four out of every five people know Burna Boy. I wish our Ghanaian talents enjoyed that level of recognition," he lamented.
As a seasoned talent manager with 15 years of experience, Britton emphasised the importance of Ghanaian artistes collaborating with international record labels to access global stages and media outlets.
He warned that without such partnerships, Ghana risks missing out on substantial revenue and opportunities in music tourism.
"I want our artists to step out of their comfort zones and negotiate beneficial deals with international labels," he urged.
Meanwhile, on his 2024 Hennessy Cypher, Sarkodie criticised conventional record deals that he likened to being "caged in a zoo," underscoring his pride in achieving success as an independent artist over the past decade.
