Ibrahim Sannie Daara, the former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has called on the Black Stars' technical team to give Bernard Tekpetey a chance in the national team.

Sannie Daara pointed out Tekpetey's impressive performances for Ludogorets in Bulgaria's top football league as a compelling reason to consider him for a call-up.

Tekpetey, who has consistently delivered strong performances for Ludogorets over the past four seasons, has only made two appearances for the Black Stars, both during the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

In that tournament, he featured in one match as a substitute and started in Ghana's third-place playoff.

With Ghana's qualification hopes for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in jeopardy, Sannie Daara believes it is time to broaden the selection pool and look beyond Europe’s top leagues to include players in leagues like Bulgaria's.

Speaking on GHOne TV, he urged the technical team to expand their focus: "We should widen the scope not only to the top leagues of the world, but also give preference to those on the periphery of the top leagues in Europe,” he said.

He specifically mentioned Tekpetey as an example: “For how long will this young lad keep performing well in the Bulgarian league? But maybe just because he's playing in Bulgaria, we are not giving him preference."

Ghana is currently in third place in Group F with two points, and their qualification fate could be sealed before their Friday match against Angola.

This is because second-placed Sudan, who need only one point to qualify, will face Niger in their penultimate qualifier on Thursday.
