Former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has thrown his support behind a proposal to extend the FA presidential term limit from two to three terms.

The recommendation, put forward by the Statutes Review Committee, will be discussed at the GFA’s 31st Ordinary Congress on Tuesday, August 12.

While some member clubs have criticised the move, Sannie Daara — now a senior official at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) — insists the extension is crucial for the long-term stability and development of Ghanaian football.

“Leading the Football Association is no easy task. Implementing a vision and addressing systemic challenges takes time,” he told the media. “We’ve all seen the progress made under Kurt Okraku’s leadership, and I believe there’s nothing wrong with extending the term limit.”

He further argued that a longer tenure would enhance Ghana’s influence within African and global football governance.

“If we aim to have a presence within CAF and FIFA, the impact of our FA leadership must be significant and long-term. That won’t happen within just two terms,” he said.

The proposal is expected to be one of the most debated issues at next week’s Congress.
