AT this point in Dancehall artiste, Samini’s career, he has nothing to prove to anybody because he has seen and done it all so one would expect that he would take a backseat and use his expertise to steer the young ones but the Linda hitmaker says he still has a lot of music in him to give.

Speaking with Showbiz recently, the award-winning artiste said while he will still help the young ones like he did with Kofi Kinaata and Kaakie as well as what he is doing with Deon Boakye, he won’t stop doing music.

“I won’t take a backseat because I still have a lot to offer. I am still very active so I will do music for a long time while I help the young ones come up,” he said.

Samini is one of those who helped to make Dancehall music attractive and popular and says the genre’s growth is great.

“It’s really grown from when we came in, it’s very vibrant now and it has obviously come to stay,” he stated.

Although Dancehall has grown, the dearth of female acts in that area has been a bit of a bother for people and sharing his view on the challenges the female acts face, Samini said he believes there is a lifespan for female entertainers in general and not necessarily those doing Dancehall.

“They come, stay on for a season and go, it could be marriage or children. Very good talents come and go based on other external factors like wanting to settle down,” he said.

Samini, who is currently one of the judges on Vodafone Icons says it has been good so far and he is positive about the future of the local music industry.

“Of course we have a very bright future, look at the new crop of artistes we are listening to now—KiDi, Kuami Eugene, Deon Boakye and others, the industry is indeed growing and we have a future,” he said.

When this reporter asked Samini for his opinion on the Zylofon Media concert in Nigeria where Ghanaian artistes were virtually shunned by the Nigerians, Samini said we should take positives from it.

“It was a good thing that we went there to launch Zylofon and Menzgold, it’s like going to play an away match, the fans won’t be for you. I think they did their best, it was an away gig and anything could happen.”

He stated that things like what Zylofon has done can help maximise our presence in Nigeria and other countries around the world, “it is a door opener and a good way of being able to have our content out there.”

The beef between Samini and fellow Dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale, is an open secret so we asked him if they are still beefing.

“As a matter of fact, we are very cool, we belong to a genre that people have to prove themselves so there is always rivalry.

“Two years ago he came on Saminifest to surprise me so you see, we are cool,” he said. Will there ever be a collaboration between Samini and Shatta Wale? “It’s one big industry so you never say never, anything is possible,” was his answer.
