Joseph Paintsil says scoring on his return from injury has given him renewed confidence after a difficult spell on the sidelines.
The LA Galaxy forward marked his comeback with a goal and an assist in a 2-2 draw against FC Dallas in Major League Soccer, following six weeks out.
“It’s been a rough season for me, getting injured for almost six weeks,” Paintsil said after the match. “This is not something that any footballer wants, but it’s also part of the game.”
The 28-year-old admitted the injury layoff had been frustrating, but described his return to the scoresheet as a significant emotional lift.
“But being on the score sheet today, it has really made me feel really good,” he said. “It boosts my energy and gives me more confidence going into the next game.”
Paintsil also expressed gratitude simply for being back on the pitch and contributing to the team.
“The team did everything possible to take this one point. I’m just really grateful that I’m still healthy and for getting minutes in this game against Dallas,” he added.
His goal, the first of his league campaign, comes as Galaxy look to build momentum in their bid to return to the playoffs after last season’s success.
