It is coming home: Hearts of Oak fans confident of first league title in 12 years
25th May 2021
Hearts of Oak fans believe the omens are clear and the signs have been written on a wall as they bid to end the 12 year league title drought.
The last time the Accra based side lifted the league title there was nothing like Snapchat, Instagram did not exist and there was nothing like an iPad then but fast forward the world has seen a lot of innovation and new technologies but what Hearts fans have not seen in the last 12 years is the Ghana Premier League trophy.
A title they won for fun and on six consecutive times in the early 2000's has all of a sudden eluded them as if they are at loggerheads but many believe the tide will turn this year.
After more than a dozen coaches and a second stint of the man who won them the last title, Kosta Papic, they believe Samuel Boadu will end the long tiring wait this time.
They are on the right track winning matches at both home and away regardless of the style with a very sharp attack the future looks good.
But most phobians are drawing their inspiration from some European underdogs who have banished long wait for titles to win them this term.
In France, PSG are always champions even before the season starts with their unimaginable deep pockets from the oil rich Qatari owners but Lille with their small budget have dethroned PSG to win their first title in ten years.
Sporting Lisbon have also ended the duopoly of FC Porto and Benfica to win the Portuguese league title for the first time in 19 years.
The wind of change has also blown over in Scotland where Celtic always won the league title even when they were asleep every season but Rangers under bright young manager Steve Gerard have changed the narrative winning the Scottish title for the first time in a decade .
Inter Milan under Antonio Conte has ended the nine year dominance of Juevntus by winning the Italian Serie A title for the first time since last winning it in 2010 with Jose Mourinho.
Many Hearts fans believe it is their turn now to change the narrative and win the league title after so many heartaches and you can't fault them for thinking like that.
Hearts of Oak will play six of their remaining eight league matches at their own back yard at the Accra Sports Stadium although some of them are against fierce local derbies against Great Olympics, Legon Cities, Kotoko and Medeama.
But what is wrong if fans keep dreaming and believing as they are currently top of the Ghana Premier League standings albeit on goal difference with Kotoko seemingly stuttering with tough games against Aduana, Hearts, Ashgold, King Faisal,Karela all coming up.
Hearts of Oak believe the time is now to win the first ever league title under the ownership of Togbe Afede XIV and Samuel Boadu aka Kofi Yesu is the messiah!
