Not long ago executive secretary to the Inspector General of Police, Superintendent Peter Lanchene Tuubo retired voluntarily from the service to contest the Wa West Parliamentary primaries of the NDC

The latest to join this trend is 35 year old Policeman, Detective Corporal John Evans Ayerakwa-Kumordzi with the Akropong District Command.

He resigned his position in February to contest the Parliamentary seat for Okere Constituency in the Eastern region on the ticket of the opposition NDC.

This development has raised concerns among the general public as to why active servicemen will quit their police uniforms for a seat in parliament.

With some questioning their allegiance and professionalism whiles they were active in the service but International Relations and security expert with the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Dr. Vladmir Antwi Danso has poured cold water on these suggestions.

In an Interview with Accra based Peace Fm, he allayed the fears of the general public by suggesting that all persons in the security services have allegiances to a political party and people should not be surprised if people within the Police Force resign to contest parliamentary seats.

“It’s no news to me because I know three lecturer friends who have quit their jobs to join Politics but because they are Policemen we think they can’t join politics?

Where they work is irrelevant but we think they are Policemen so should not be in politics or think that whiles even in the Police Service they were partisan because we now know where they belong.

Every Policeman or Soldier belongs to a political Party just that they don’t have Party cards but don’t forget they vote for parties during elections so I have no problem if they resign and join politics.

His experience in the Service may even be helpful in his parliamentary ambitions or work” he added
