The accusation by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) that Former President John Dramani Mahama issued a diplomatic passport to the embattled CEO of Menzgold Company Limited, Nana Appiah Mensah (NAM1) is false, the special aide to the president Mrs Joyce Bawah Mogtari has said.

In a statement by the Former deputy Minister of Transport, the allegations made by a vice-chairman of the NPP, Michael Owari Wadie, in a radio interview in Accra is a desperate attempt by the Akufo-Addo government to drag Mr. Mahama in the Menzgold saga.

According to Joyce Bawah, the former President has nothing to do with the Menzgold boss or his business.

“There appears a desperate attempt, unsuccessful so far, by the NPP to drag former President John Mahama and other executives of the NDC into the unfolding MenzGold saga.

“Fact though is that, neither Mr. Mahama nor his wife have any investments in MenzGold and the spurious claims by the NPP’s vice chairman that Nana Appiah was issued with a diplomatic passport by the NDC administration is just what it is, spurious and false" she noted in a statement.

Mahama Administration did not issue NAM1 a diplomatic passport

There appears a desperate attempt, unsuccessful so far, by the NPP to drag former President John Mahama and other executives of the NDC into the unfolding MenzGold saga.

Fact though is that neither Mr Mahama nor his wife has any investments in MenzGold and the spurious claims by the NPP’s vice chairman that Nana Appiah was issued with a diplomatic passport by the NDC administration is just what it is, spurious and false.

Such lies being peddled by an obviously desperate government will not change the views and disappointments of Ghanaians in the Nana Addo administration.

Thank you

Meanwhile, a high-powered government delegation is in Dubai to press for the extradition of embattled Menzgold CEO.

The delegation includes Deputy Attorney General, Joseph Dindiok Kpemka, a representative from the Economic Organised Crime Office (EOCO), the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) and National Security.

An Accra Circuit Court issued a warrant for his arrest last week but a press release by the police on Monday indicates that NAM1 has already been arrested in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) capital on December 7 after “a gold deal gone wrong.”
