Lead counsel for the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Nii Ayikoi Otoo, has revealed that he has received several congratulatory messages from friends and colleague lawyers from around the world especially from the United States of America, Britain, and Jerusalem and Israel, after he led the PPP to win a case against the Electoral Commission (EC) on Friday.
According to him, this shows the level of interest the international community has in the electoral process of Ghana, thus, the need to do things in accordance with the law.
His comment comes after an Accra High Court presided over by Justice Eric Kyei Baffour ordered the EC to allow PPP flag bearer, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, effect the necessary changes on his presidential nomination forms to pave the way for his participation in the 2016 presidential elections.
The court on Friday October 28 ruled that the EC breached the rule of natural justice in disqualifying Dr Nduom, who was one of the 13 flag bearers disqualified.
Mr Otoo, a former Attorney General, when asked whether this would go down as one of his most memorable cases in his career, in an interview with Class News’ Naa Dedei Tettey, said: “Well, I have received congratulatory messages from America, Britain, Jerusalem, and that means people are following the matter.”
“This is an interpretation that will lead to good governance,” he added.
