Bayer Leverkusen claimed victory against FC Heidenheim but suffered a setback as key wing-back Jeremie Frimpong was forced off before halftime due to a knee injury.

The Dutch-Ghanaian defender collided with Heidenheim goalkeeper Kevin Müller during the first half and initially tried to play on.

However, he was substituted in stoppage time, with Nathan Tella taking his place.

After the match, Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso reassured fans about Frimpong’s condition, expressing optimism about the recovery.

"We expect it to not be that serious," Alonso said, though he refrained from providing further details.

Frimpong has been a pivotal part of Leverkusen's attacking and defensive setups this season, and his potential absence could be a blow as the team prepares for their Champions League clash with RB Salzburg on Tuesday.

With Alonso’s hopeful outlook offering some relief, Leverkusen now turns its focus to adjusting for their upcoming European challenge.
