Reports reaching us indicate that the Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Wassa Amenfi Central in the Western region, has been shot dead.

The sad incident reportedly happened Tuesday during a traditional coronation of a new chief at Ankwaso, Oseadeeye Kwabena Damptey II.

According to sources, the feud ensued when a faction he supports attempted to stop the coronation.

They were reported to have allegedly carried guns and tried to fire shots to disrupt the program, however, that never materialized.

The police intervened leading to exchange of gunshots.

Thie name of the constituency chairman was given as Daniel.

No deaths were recorded so but one person identified as Kofi Abebrese was reported to have sustained injuries and has been admitted at Bibiani government hospital.

Sefwi Bekwai District Police Commander, Superintendent Isaac Baah in a recent submission confirmed there was an exchange of gunshots between the police and the NDC civilian believed to be one of the supporters of the former chief, Nana Kanka Ababio.

However, the newly crowned chief, Oseadeeye Kwabena Damptey II has called for peace after he was successfully sworn in as the new chief with the help of the security personnel from Takoradi and Sefwi Bekwai.

He further called for calm and appealed to all sides to join hands and fight for Wassa Ankwaso and sources noted that one pump action gun has been retrieved but no arrests have been made yet.
