She is known for songs that are controversial with catchy titles and hooks but Deborah Vanessa Owusu-Bonsu best known in Showbiz as Sister Derby has said her new single titled 'Kakalika Love' has elevated her brand.
The sultry multi talented model/TV host has indicated that although her previous songs has done creditably well, Kakalika love which is about deceit and heartbreak has been accepted more than the others.
In a new song titled “Kakalika Love”, Sister Derby took on her ex boyfriend Medikal and his new found love, actress Fella Makafui.
She revealed that the 'Too Risky' hitmaker saved Fella Makafui's name as Carpenter to wade off any sort of suspicion from her.
“Cockroaches or lizards to be hiding your relationship,” was one of the subtle jabs in the song.
Getting to the end of the song, Sister Derby who doubles as an actress disclosed, “You have stored her name carpenter, change mine to plumber.”
Sister Derby said she wasn’t disturbed by their relationship because “Medikal will repeat it with Fela Makafui”.
Parts of her lyrics read: “Don’t lie to me. If you don’t love me respect yourself to tell me. Oh! me I am calm. She [Fela Makafui] didn’t do me any harm because he [Medikal] go take do am,” it read.
The song has become so popular that it has led to a video challenge, with people recording themselves enacting the lyrics, and Sister Derby has been giving out cash rewards for the best dances.
One thing that she is happy about though is that it has brought her closer to the masses and she believes it is because of the universal theme which everyone can relate to.
“Kakalika Love has helped my brand because I have been able to cross over to the masses. I am not surprised the song has travelled far because everyone has been lied to or deceived in one way or the other.
The song has done magic for me and is still doing wonders thanks to the massive support of my fans,” she told Showbiz.
Apart from the song making her appeal to the masses, it has also scored her a number of gigs for this Christmas period, something she is excited about.
”I am on the bill for a number of shows including Decemba2Rememeba, AfroChella and Detty Rave,” she disclosed.
Sister Derby was previously known for songs such as Uncle Obama, Pure Water, Ghana Jollof and Borla.
