New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP for Assin Central Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has debunked claims by Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president, Kwesi Nyantakyi which suggested that President Akufo-Addo offered the Transport Ministry to Mr. Agyapong.

According to the tough talking politician, he has never been interested in holding any public office adding that he has made that clear to President Akufo-Addo prior to the 2016 general elections.

Mr. Nyantakyi in the documentary by ace undercover journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ expose on corruption within Ghana football, was seen telling undercover reporters that Kennedy Agyapong was offered the Transport Ministry for contributions he made towards the NPP campaign in the run up to the 2016 elections.

“There is a man called Kennedy Agyapong. He is an MP. He is one of the biggest financiers of the NPP. He is very loud. He owns OMAN FM and NET2 TV. He is criticising the government, his own government, yes. He wants to control everything… nobody can call him to order. They will be begging him when he is insulting them…so, he [Karbo] mentioned that they wanted to make him [Kennedy Agyapong] a minister because of the contribution he made to the campaign. He says he cannot be a minister because he is not a disciplined person to be a minister. But they [the government] gave him a ministry. They created a ministry and gave it to him and he nominated somebody as the minister. Yes, Ministry of Transport. The guy who is there [at the Transport Ministry], Asiamah; that is his [Kennedy Agyapong’s] small boy,” Kwesi Nyantakyi said.

Responding to the allegation in a radio interview, Mr Agyapong said “from day one, from the time of [former] President [John] Kufuor, I have never been interested in a ministerial position. I’m a business man and I don’t want the situation where when I order for my better vehicle, Bentley, I’d be told I cannot use it as a minister.”

“Life is short, I want to live comfortably because of my background as a hustler [I want to be able to enjoy my riches]… it has been my position [not interested in ministerial position] for a long time so the President never offered me any appointment. Before we won the elections, the President asked me several times, are you sure Kenny, you don’t want anything and I said I was sure. So the president was sure when he was making his appointment that I don’t want any position," he said.

He insisted the Transport Minister, Mr Asiamah was competent and got the position on his own merit adding that there would have been nothing wrong if the President had offered Asiamah that position because of him [Agyapong].
