Ghanaian international Kevin Prince Boateng has expressed regrets over his ‘unserious’ youthful days.

Deapite featuring for clubs such as Werder Bremen, Tottenham, Portsmouth, AC Milan, Schalke 04 and currently Sassuolo in the Italian top-flight.

The 31 year old feels his career could’ve still been a lot better if he had stayed grounded during his early playing days.

Boateng was voted Germany’s best young player in 2006, broke into the German youth set-up at the age of 18 and has had his career plagued with several controversies.

The talented German-born playmaker was axed from the German U-21 team in 2007, caught smoking openly in the Schalke 04 dressing room and dashed Michael Ballacks dream in the 2006 World Cup after a horrible foul on the player.

Speaking in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Boateng opened out about his frustrations and also bemoaned the lack of guidance during his formative years.

"I know that I was wrong when I was young because I was not serious and I did not have the right people around, unlike today. Anyway, yes, even now looking back I feel I could have reached a lot higher, despite my good career ".
