As part of plans to increase revenue mobilization for the 2018 fiscal year, the Kpone-Katamanso District Assembly (KKDA) has held a revenue mobilization work shop for residents of Sebrepor and its surrounding areas.

The workshop was used by officials of the Assembly to sensitize residents on KKDA's revenue mobilization as well as served as a platform to discuss the 2018 fee fixing resolution.

Mr Noble Atsu Ahadzie, Budget Officer for KKDA, said the meeting would be replicated in all the four area councils of the Assembly.

Mr Ahadzie said, the KKDA and the other 215 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) were mandated by the Local Government Act 2016 to engage community members before fixing of levies, rates and fees for the fiscal year.

He explained that MMDAs had been mandated by the Act as the only authority to levy sufficient rates to provide for the total expenditure to be incurred by the Assembly during the period in respect of which the rate was levied.

He encouraged residents to therefore fulfil their civic responsibilities by paying their rates and fees to enable the Assembly provide them with the needed development.

The Budget Officer gave the assurance that areas which used to be farmlands but now serving as residential areas would be properly mapped and re-planned to enable the Assembly issue the needed building permits and house numbers to them.

This, he stated, would enable the Assembly to bill the residents in the area to pay property rates which would lead to the increase of its revenue.

Mr Yakubu Mohammed, Kpone Katamanso Coordinating Director, said Assembly needed the support of residents to enable them initiate and complete projects.

Mr Mohammed added that due to some administrative challenges, some major projects in the district have been halted.
