Komla Dumor's family outlines 5th Anniversary events
19th February 2019
The family of renowned deceased journalist, Komla Afeke Dumor, has outlined a series of events to mark the 5th anniversary of his passing.
Speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Mawuena Trebah on behalf of Dr Korshie Dumor and all siblings of the broadcaster expressed appreciation to Ghanaians, the BBC and others who have helped the family and the memory of their brother since his passing.
As part of activities lined up, there will be a Thanksgiving Service at the Holy Spirit Cathedral at 9.30 am on Sunday 24th February, 2019.
There will also be a launch of two books in July, which are personal writings and beliefs of the late broadcaster. As held annually since the demise of Komla Dumor, there will be an anniversary lecture at a date that will be communicated later.
“We will receive as many people as possible that will be able to make it to the Holy Spirit Cathedral . . . we thank God for our father and for the encouragement he’s been giving us to push through our pain. Thank you to everybody for your support," she said.
Missing A Loved One
The death of a loved one always leaves a vacuum which can be filled only by God. The thought of not seeing or speaking to the person again can make life difficult but Mawuena and the entire Dumor family hope in the ‘creator to take them through every step of the way’ because with the death of a loved one, “we don’t get over it, we get on with it”
“The fact that he (Komla) could annoy me quite easily; the fact that he was really my twin; there was quite a relationship there . . . being able to just talk, share ideas, laugh . . . I miss everything about who he was as an individual. We are always encouraged . . . and I am pretty thankful. I also thank God for my brother Korshie,” she added.
Nonetheless, “our focus must be on his legacy; his children and what he would want for them.”
