The Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Simeon Tetteh, has refuted claims the Assembly did not settle the medical bills of the victims who sustain injuries during a recent shooting incident in the area.

His comments come after some NDC members in the area alleged that the Assembly has failed to settle the medical bills of the shooting victims during the clash between residents of Odumase Krobo and the police over hikes in electricity tariffs by the then Power Distribution Service (PDS).

The NDC claimed after the incident, the Assembly turned against the victims and it took the intervention of some devoted persons in the community to make the payments for the victims.

But the MCE refuting the claims said the Assembly made payment of GH¢6,580 and GH¢8,000 medical bills for the two among the other victims namely; Ruth Mankattah,18, and Korletey Tetteh, 41 respectively.

The two victims were detained at the St. Joseph Hospital in Koforidua over failure to pay their medical bills.

Hon Simeon Tetteh after hearing that the hospital had detained the victims, rush to the facility and made an initial deposit of Ghc2000 to the hospital for the victims.

Simeon Tetteh said the Assembly thereafter made the rest of the payment and also some assistance to the victims.

Ruth Makathar, student of Odumase Krobo Anglican JHS was accidentally shot in both legs after she was caught up in the clash between the police and the agitating power consumers while returning from school and as a result, she could not take part in the Basic Education Certificate Examination.

Her right knee was penetrated by the bullet while the left leg suffered minor injury by another bullet.

The right leg of Ruth Mankattah, was amputated on June 12, 2019, by Orthopedic Surgeons after several diagnoses and treatment failed to heal the injured limp due to the gravity of the injury.

The other victim, Korley Tetteh, was similarly shot in the leg and had undergone successful surgery.

During the clash, a 24-year-old was shot dead with seven others sustaining injuries while other 35 persons were also arrested.
