KsTU begins its ‘harassment free’ journey with staff and students

The Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has successfully launched its highly touted project - “The Student Matters Most”, an initiative that is seeking to standardize the relationship between staff and students of the institution.

The launch which took place at the Great Hall of KsTU on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, was graced by the Vice Chancellor - Prof. Engr. Nana Osei Owusu Achaw, the Registrar - Mr. Ebenezer Kofi Boakye, Deans of Faculties, Management of the institution and the leadership of Student Union and Association among others.

“The Student Matters Most” #TSM2 project is championed by the Guidance and Counselling Unit and the Institute of Research Innovation and Development of KsTU, under the theme: “Standardizing the Relationship Between the Staff and the Students”.

Addressing the gathering at the launch, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Engr. Nana Osei Owusu Achaw urged the staff of the institution to protect the students and treat them as their own. According to him, when the students are well treated, devoid of any harassment, they will anchor the growth of the University and sell its good name to the world.

Citing the project as a great initiative, he called on the office of the Registrar, the Guidance and Counseling Unit and the staff (both teaching and non-teaching) to avail themselves as the key officers of the project.

Prof. Engr. Nana Osei Owusu Achaw was optimistic the project will ensure the needed cordiality between the staff and the students without any harassment or abuse of any form which will, in turn, give the students the needed confidence to thrive in their studies.

He used the occasion to welcome all the fresh students to the institution and wished them success in their academic endeavours.

On her part, Ms. Felicia Ofosua Tettey, the Deputy Director of the Counselling Unit, touched on how the institution will be ensuring the progress and sustainability of the project.

She revealed periodic orientation or seminars will be rolled out, adding that access points and helplines have been put in place for students to report all forms of frustration, extortion, abuse, harassment, blackmail, etc.

Madam Felicia also indicated virtual flyers and handbills on guiding tips for freshers have been freely distributed to students.
