The Kuga-Na Abdulai Adam II, the Kingmaker of Dagbon has expressed gratitude to the government and commended particularly president Nana Akuffo-Addo for helping in the successful performance of the funerals of the two late overlords of Dagbon.

“First of all I want to thank the President, Nana Akuffu-Addo for the good work he did in helping Dagbon to solve their long standing problem, which I believe would bring total peace to Dagbon and attract the needed investments”, he said.

He was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Yendi on the preparation towards the out-dooring of the new Ya-Na and the way forward in restoring lasting peace in the area.

The Kuga-Na said the entire Dagbon was elated by the outcome of the performance of the late Kings of Dagbon, Na Mahmmadu Abdulai IV and Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II, and that, the people of Dagbon had put the past behind them and had come together to chart a united path for development.

“I must also thank the Committee of eminent Kings, whose sense of wisdom has brought us this far and I believe Dagbon is prepared to move forward together to rebuild Dagbon”, he said.

He also commended and thanked all chiefs in Dagbon and elders who helped in the process, and mentioned particularly, the Bolin Lana and the Kumpakuya-Na, regents of Abudu and Andani gates, for their patience and acceptance of the new Ya-Na, Abukari Mahama.

He said education and other development projects had stalled due to the conflict and expressed the hope that the government, under the leadership of Nana Akuffo-Addo, would continue to commit resources towards rebuilding of Dagbon.

The Kuga-Na said Kingmakers of Dagbon would adhere to the Dagbon Constitution of 1930 and the Supreme Court ruling of 1986, which states that no sitting regent becomes an immediate Ya-Na, “The problems came about because any regent who performed the father’s funeral refuses to step down for another person and I think that practice will not continue again”.

He, however, expressed worry and regret that social media was used deliberately or ignorantly to disrupt the process and asked the National Media Commission (NMC) and the National Communication Authority (NCA) to devise means of controlling social media use to avert unforeseen developments.

“The media has done well but the only disturbing trend is the excessive abuse of social media, which had been used deliberately to ensure that Dagbon doesn’t see peace. What they are doing on social media will not help. We want peace and they must stop that and we don’t want anybody to come and destroy Dagbon again through lies in the media”.

He appealed to the youth to guard jealously the peace in Dagbon, to enable development and investments to come to the area to solve the youth and the graduate unemployment problem.
