Kumasi assault case:Women's group expresses 'indignation' over police action
25th February 2017
The women's wing of pressure group, Progressive Alliance Media Communicators(PAMC) has chided the police over the manner in which it has handled the assault on a lady alleged to have stolen items at Adum.
The women, despite commending the police, has expressed its disagreement to allow the victim to seek medical attention alone, a move that they believe"puts the life of the victim in a great danger."
"......wish to register our indignation in the manner in which the Ghana police handled this assault case which may be a discomfiture to the international world and Ghana as a whole, the PAMC said in a statement.
The PAMC women's wing has further challenged the acting IGP and the ministry of Gender to conduct thorough as preliminary investigations showed that the victim was a mistaken identity.
"We are by this release, humbly requesting the IGP, Mr . Appeatu and the Ghana Police to up their game by activating a thorough search for the victim and give her the justice she deserves," the statement adds.

PRESS RELEASE
ADUM KUMASI ASSAULT CASE, GHANA POLICE MUST EXPEDITE THE INVESTIGATION PROCESS.
We, the women's wing of the above mentioned group, without hesitation commend the police in the efforts made to effect some arrest of suspects connected to the mob assault on a lady which occurred on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at Adum in Kumasi.
We however, wish to register our indignation in the manner in which the Ghana police handled this assault case which maybe a discomfiture to the international world and Ghana as a whole.
We have reliably been informed with the greatest displeasure that the police has granted the victim a police form to go and seek medical attention alone which we find very unfortunate and inappropriate.
This action by the police, we believe puts the life of the victim in a great danger especially when preliminary investigations showed that the victim was a mistaken identity and also not a Ghanaian national (Nigerian).
Is it not even worrying that up till now, Ghana police is unable to trace the whereabout of the victim?
"Justice delayed is Justice denied"!!
We are by this release, humbly requesting the IGP, Mr . Appeatu and the Ghana Police to up their game by activating a thorough search for the victim and give her the justice she deserves.
We will continue to appeal to the Gender Minister to move beyond condemning the act and be actively involved in the process of ensuring justice for the victim. We are therefore asking the Gender ministry to:
1. Find the victim
2. Apologise to her
3. Compensate her and
4. Put her on a rehabilitation programme
That said, we appeal to civil society organisations, The clergy, Peace Council , Catholic Bishop Conference, Human Rights Advocates, Human Rights legal advisers and the Media to join us as we toil to guarantee justice for the victim.
We want to assure the public our readiness and eagerness to work our hearts out towards distribution of fair justice for the lady in question.
Thank you !
