Kwabena Owusu questions Black Stars snub despite strong form in Europe

Ghanaian striker Kwabena Owusu has voiced his frustration over being consistently overlooked by the Black Stars technical team, despite a strong run of form in top-level European football.
Owusu, who spent the second half of the 2024/25 season on loan at Turkish side Ankaragücü, impressed with nine goals and three assists in just 15 matches.
He is set to return to his parent club, Ferencváros, in Hungary, following the conclusion of his loan spell.
In an interview with Pure FM in Kumasi, the 26-year-old expressed confusion and disappointment over his continued exclusion from the national team setup, despite what he believes are performances that merit a recall.
“It’s hard to understand. I was getting call-ups when I was playing in the lower divisions, but now that I’m at the top level, playing in Europe’s biggest competitions, I’ve been ignored. None of the Black Stars strikers has more goals than me currently," Owusu said.
The former Leganés striker questioned what he sees as a possible bias or misunderstanding, pointing out that he has been labeled disrespectful without any clear justification.
“They say I’m disrespectful. I want them to show me where I disrespected anyone. I have always given my best and shown respect,” he added.
Owusu made his Black Stars debut in 2019 in a friendly against South Africa and was part of Ghana’s squad for the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt the same year, where the team exited in the round of 16.
As Ghana looks to rebuild and strengthen ahead of upcoming international fixtures, Owusu believes his current form justifies another opportunity with the senior national team.
