Gregory Afoko, the suspect in the the murder case of the Regional Chairman of the Upper East New Patriotic Party, Adams Mahama on Thursday January 17 pleaded with the court be given time to provide a second witness.

The Lawyers of Mr Afoko pleaded with the court to adjourn the case to January 24 but the plea was declined and were instructed to present the witness today which they could not.

The defence counsel Beenedicta Antwi, who stood in for  Mr Osafo Boabeng, told the court that the witness will be available on January 24.

She said, “My Lord, we pray for adjournment to 24th to produce our next witness. After all our efforts to reach the witness, he pleads with the court that he can be in court on January 24".

She assured the court that, if on the 24th the witness is not in court, the defence would close our case.

The Accra High Court presided over by  L.L Mensah has however reluctantly adjourned the case to January 24 on the bases that the prosecution had 14 witnesses, “so if the accused has two or three witnesses lets give him the chance to also present his two witnesses.”

Prosecution represented by Annette Barnes who was standing in for Mathew Amponsah, Chief State Attorney said the adjournment is not at the instance of the prosecution.

She however did not opposed to the adjournment.
