Respected Ghanaian highlife musician, Kaakyire Kwame Fosu, widely known as KK Fofu is calling on Ghanaian authorities to consider the legalization of marijuana (weed) as an alternative to other hard drugs.

According to the musician, smoking weed is safer than prescription drug, tramadol which a number of Ghanaian youth are dying as a result of its consumption.

The Food and Drugs Authority have been alarmed at the rate at which young Ghanaians are abusing tramadol in a bid to get high.

But KK Fosu speaking recently in an interview with SVTV Africa insisted that the legalization of marijuana could stem the tide.

The highlife musician in his conversation stated that the time has come for government to consider the legalization of the banned drugs since it is much healthier than tramadol which he said is deadly.

“Junior High School students prefer tramadol because it is not easily detected by a smell. I used to smoke marijuana in the past, but I am against the use of harmful narcotics such as cocaine,” KK Fosu said.

The musician maintained that Ghana must accept the banned substances, which a lot of people in Canada and some states in the US are using since it’s legalized.

KK Fosu also blamed the weak administration of the Food and Drugs Authority for the prevalence of tramadol abuse in the country.

He, however, commended pharmacists who insist on prescriptions before selling medicines to their clients.
