Dear Nana Addo,

This is my first open letter to you since you were elected president in last Wednesday's election. Congratulations! I have some few things to share with you. Forgive me for choosing this medium.

I am not a member of your party and I have no intentions of becoming a member, but I have a few unsolicited advice for you. Now that you have won, all manner of lobbyists have kickstarted operations to get appointed to sensitive positions.

Mr president elect, never repeat their mistake of president Mahama and NDC by appointing people who were not in the trenches with you during the campaign. These people may have all the intellect and skills to realize you vision, but don't consider them for any position.

Those who had sleepless night, risk their lives in the hamlets, fought battles of the lives and got you elected must be allowed to enjoy the fruit of their labor. One of the biggest mistakes of the NDC was to rely on supposed technocrats as ministers and chief executives of states institutions to the neglect of their own members.

Usual of them, these technocrats only show their faces when victory is delivered in a nice way. They don't share the sentiments of party "footsoldiers". They are quick to insult footsoldiers as bunch of jobless illiterates lazing around. As soon as they are appointed to positions, they forget that these footsoldiers were those who worked for them to grab the positions they occupy.

This "monkey dey work, baboon dey chop" nonsense affected the NDC. There are a lot of NDC supporters who gave their all in 2008 and 2012, hoping to be sorted out but these "Jonny just come" appointees neglected them. Sometimes menial jobs that should have gone to them were diverted elsewhere (more on this later).

There are a lot of these Jonny just come lobbyists on social media, particularly Facebook. They have started throwing out policies that your government must implement under the guise of advice. These are all antics to hoodwink you into appointing them ahead of your own people into positions.

Those who dirtied themselves, walked long distances to campaign must be allowed to enjoy the fruit of their labor. Again those of your members who will be considered for public positions must be warned to eschew arrogance and opulent lifestyles. They should use their positions to serve mother Ghana without any private reward.

They should not see their positions as avenues to take advantage of people, especially our young ladies. The front seats of their SUVs should not be occupied by skimpy dressed ladies who have no respect for party footsoldiers. Their secretaries should be counseled to respect everybody, irrespective of how the person looks.

They should not change their phone numbers simply because they have been appointed to positions. They should answer their calls and respond to messages promptly. Party supporters hate to be treated in a manner that suggest they have been used and dumped.

These things affected the NDC. It is based on these silly mistakes of the NDC that gave you advantage over them in last Wednesday's election. DON'T repeat SAME.

Yours truly,
A B, Amorse
