The New Partiotic Party in a Press conference have accused the former President John Dramani Mahama as infusing fear in the citizens of Ghana ahead of the 2020 general elections.

Speaking at the Press Conference on Wednesday February 19 2019 at Accra, the Member of Parliament for the Adentan Constituency Yaw Buabeng Asamoah stated that, Mr Mahama is power hungry and is hiding behind the scenes of the skirmishes in the country to cause tension in the country.

He said, “Why is the former president desperate for power? Can that desperation be justified by peddling falsehoods about security in Ghana to the international community especially when the former president appears to be the inspiration for such violence with his own party.”

The ruling arty further criticized Mr Mahama presenting inconsistent information on security issues in the country on the international front.

Mr Asamoah said, “this attempt to create fear of elections going as far as denigrating the country’s image on the international scene does not wash with voters in Ghana.”

According to him, the former President and the largest opposition party had criticized the country's security after the the Aywasso West Wuogon by-elections was marred with violence yet "they have found have found and renewed their faith in the police”  after a shooting at the NDC Ashanti regional office killing one and leaving another injured.

According to Mr Asamoah, Mr Mahama and the NDC should further strengthen their faith in the Emile Short Commission which was set up by President Akufo Addo to investigate the La Bawaleshie violence on January 31 2019 during the by-election, a move the NDC have expressed their distrust in.

“We ask the NDC to strengthen its new-found faith in the police by extending it to an unequivocal endorsement of the commission. If that happens, stakeholders across the governance landscape… can then encourage the commission  to spread its tentacles wide and draw conclusions capable of dealing with the alarming tread of political blackmail,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Mahama will be contesting for the primaries of the Party to elect a Presidential flagbearer for the NDC alongside Alban bagbin, Goosie Tanoh, Spio Gabrah, Joshua Alabi, Nurudeen Idrissu, and Sylvester Mensah on Saturday February 23 2019.
