Former president John Mahama has called on all supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to get involved in the ‘Aagbe wo’ demonstration.

The party is set to hit the streets on Thursday, February 7, 2019 in protest of the brutality from security personnel during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.

In a Facebook post, Mahama said violence has no place Ghana’s democracy and should therefore not be condoned.

By participating in the demonstration, he said, will show the world that the NDC is a party that stands for peace.

“I welcome the initiative of the Inter-Party Coalition for National Sovereignty and I encourage all members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to participate in tomorrow’s demonstration.

“Let’s show to the world that we stand for peace and that the violence displayed in AWW has no place in our democracy,” the former president wrote.

The NDC will be joined by eight other political parties – who form the Inter-Party Coalition for National Sovereignty – for Thursday’s protest.

The protestors will begin their walk at the Old Obra Spot at the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange in the morning.

They will then march to the Farrisco traffic light, UTC, the High Street, the Ministry of Interior, the Police Headquarters and finally converge at the Jubilee House.

This follows the violent scenes that occurred during the by-election at Ayawaso West Wuogon on Thursday, January 31, 2019.

The by-election was marred by a shooting incident which led to some persons sustaining various injuries.

Some macho men in NSC-branded t-shirts allegedly attacked some voters at the Presby school polling station.

The attacks by the security personnel have since been widely condemned by the public, civil society organisations and the President, Nana Akufo-Addo.
