In a comment on a video that has gone viral on social media, Communications Director of the News Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea, says President John Mahama was not 'sharing' money.

He said the video shows the President single out some people and handing what was said to be money to them.

Speaking on Joy FM/MultiTV's news analysis program, Newsfile Saturday, he said it could be the President was showing concern to a hawker whose wares might have been scattered as the convoy was passing.

Deputy Minister for Education, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, also said on the programme that he was grateful the incident was filmed.

He said the video has enhanced the campaign of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The President has been criticised following a video of him handing out what appears to be money to some traders at Agbogbloshie Market in Accra went viral. The President was at the market as part of his campaign for reelection in the December polls.

Some critics say President was buying votes, however, the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has said the President was probably sharing leaflets and not money.

Speaking on Newsfile, Mr. Ablakwa said the President does not need to buy votes to win the December polls.

He revealed that the President gave out GHS50.00 (about $14) to a trader whose wares destroyed as a crowd of people followed the President's convoy.
