President John Dramani Mahama is wrong regarding his request to be allowed to keep his official bungalow as a retirement package, Kojo Yankah, the founder of the African University College of Communications (AUCC) and a former Minister of Information, has said.

Although the New Patriotic Party (NPP) side of the transition team has clarified that no approval has been given to the ex-president’s request, the former president insists he has been given the nod to keep the apartment.

Commenting on the matter on his Facebook page, Mr Yankah said even if the request was approved, the principle behind it was bad, hence Mr Mahama should not have put in a request for the property.

The former Member of Parliament said: “It is wrong for the ex-President (John Mahama) to convert his official residence into a personal one. Even if Parliament approved of it and the new President gave a nod, it is still wrong. The principle is bad. When late Obetsebi Lamptey even paid for his official residence it was considered bad enough. The precedence is dangerous and should not be allowed to stand.”
