National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has said the selection period of a running mate for the flagbearer of the party is not due.

According to Mr. Ampofo, the party is not behind schedule when it comes to the selection of a running mate.

He stressed that the absence of a running mate for the party’s flagbearer, Mr John Mahama at the moment is not a cause for concern.

In an interview with Citi News, the  National Executive Committee has the responsibility and a road map on when the selection will be done.

“In previous elections, we always selected the running mate about six months to the election. We are in 2019. We are not even in 2020,” he said in response to such concerns.

Mr. Ofosu Ampofo noted that the party has a laid down structure and will come up with a running mate at the appropriate time.
“People can put up names but the National Executive Committee has the responsibility and a road map. In the roadmap, we have not gotten to the running mate [selection]. Let’s get our Parliamentary candidates first. Let’s put the right structures in place. It is not long overdue at all.”

The NDC held it’s parliamentary primaries over the weekend ahead of the 2020 elections.
