A 40-year-old man, Yaw Mensah, yesterday dawn butchered his wife, Adwoa Frimpongmaa, to death at Ablekuma Block Factory in Accra, after suspecting her of indulging in extra-marital affair.

Meanwhile, the Anyaa Police District Command has arrested the suspect after he attempted to drink a substance suspected to be poison.

Narrating the incident to the media, a co-tenant of the suspect, said he alerted the landlord after noticing bloodstains at the doorway of the deceased early yesterday at their residence at Ablekuma Block Factory.

The landlord, Barnabas Abban, then broke into the room and found Frimpongmaa (deceased) lying in a pool of blood.

According to Mr Abban, he quickly arranged for a taxi to send the lady to the hospital while he went to lodge a complaint with the police at Anya Police station.

The landlord said he was later informed of the death of Frimpongmaa.

“So the CID officer went to the house and found the husband hiding in the bathroom before he was arrested,” Abban told reporters.

According to the landlord, the couple had recently been involved in persistent quarrels, following suspicion of infidelity on the part of the deceased.

Later when co-tenants broke into the room, they found a machete, which Mensah allegedly used to commit the crime.

The deceased’s body has since been deposited at the morgue while Mensah is currently in police custody pending investigations into the case.
