'Middle of the earth' Tema should be a tourism "shrine" – Knii Lante
3rd December 2018
Award-winning reggae musician, Knii Lante, believes given that the meridian passes through Tema, Ghana, that location could be considered as a monument.
“I mean Ghana is in the middle of the world. Basically, I think the meridian passes through Tema or something. I mean, if any other country had this, that place would be a shrine,” he suggested on Wednesday, 28 November 2018 while speaking with Chauffeur Prince Benjamin on the Class Drive (CD) on Class 91.3 FM.
He appealed to the Ministry of Tourism and Culture to do something with that privilege.
Knii Lante suggested a plaque that reads: ‘This Is The Middle of The Earth’ should be erected in Tema to attract people from all over the world to come and visit the place.
Instead of making a big deal of other parts of the world, Knii Lante believes Ghana has enough places and resources to turn itself into a tourism hub.
The medical doctor whose song ‘Have Fun’ was inspired by the picturesque Ghanaian town of Ada, feels musicians in the country don’t sing about Ghana and its beautiful landmarks enough.
He wants Ghanaian musicians to pay attention to “the beautiful sights and sounds that we have in Ghana”.
Knii Lante recounted visiting a tourist site in Italy where he said people would pay thousands of euros in order to watch statues. We have a lot of resources that could be used as a centre for tourist attraction, yet all those places have been abandoned.
