Millions given to Mahama to develop the North were used to rear guinea fowls that flew to Burkina Faso – Bawumia

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on Ghanaians to reject the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, in the upcoming December 7 general elections.

Addressing a campaign rally in Saboba on Saturday, November 23, 2024, Dr. Bawumia accused the NDC of neglecting the five northern regions during their time in power and mismanaging resources intended for development.

He specifically criticised the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA), a flagship initiative of the Mahama administration designed to boost development in northern Ghana.

Dr. Bawumia alleged that hundreds of millions of Ghana cedis allocated to SADA were squandered on ineffective programmes, including a guinea fowl rearing project that became a subject of ridicule after reports emerged that the birds had “flown to Burkina Faso.”

“In this election, there are two of us, isn’t it? Myself and the former president. During his time, all the money, hundreds of millions, that were given to him [Mahama] to develop the North, he said he was raring guinea fowls. We asked him where are the guinea fowls, and he said they have flown to Burkina Faso. And today, he says he wants to come back. Do you want him to come back?” Bawumia quipped, drawing laughter and applause from the crowd.

He also pointed to the lack of visible SADA projects in the five northern regions as evidence of the NDC’s failure.

“We have not seen one SADA project in Saboba or anywhere in the north,” he said, urging voters to reject Mahama’s bid for a return to power.
