Dutch-born Ghanaian defender Mitch Apau has signed a one-year contract with SV Spakenburg ahead of the 2025–26 season, following a standout campaign with SC Telstar in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie.

The 34-year-old centre-back played a central role in Telstar’s promotion to the Eredivisie, featuring in all 38 league matches and captaining the side with consistency and composure.

His leadership on and off the pitch earned widespread praise during the club’s historic season.

SV Spakenburg chairman Marc Schoonebeek expressed his delight at the signing: "Experience, leadership, calmness and solidity were the key words here. We were looking for a type like Mitch for the right central position in our defence. We are convinced that we are well provided for with Mitch."

Born in Amsterdam to Ghanaian parents, Apau came through the Ajax youth system and went on to enjoy a career that spanned clubs in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Slovakia. Despite his European roots, he remains eligible to represent Ghana internationally.

His arrival at SV Spakenburg is seen as a major step in strengthening the club’s defensive unit as they target promotion from the Dutch third tier.
