Mobile Money fraudster claims spiritual ‘beatings’ after scamming GHC15,000

A self-confessed mobile money fraudster says he has been enduring nightly “spiritual beatings” since swindling a businesswoman out of GH¢15,000.

Speaking on Sompa FM in Kumasi, the man claimed a mysterious young boy appears in his dreams every night to whip him, leaving visible marks on his back.

He recounted that he had monitored the businesswoman’s mobile money activity and, posing as her business partner, convinced her to transfer the funds.
“I knew she had loaded the money into her wallet. I quickly called and pretended to be the person she intended to send it to. She fell for it and sent the money, and I blocked her number,” he admitted.

Since then, he says the torment has been relentless.
“The boy tells me to return the money to his mother. I can hardly sleep. I’ve tried to call her many times to return it, but she doesn’t answer,” he said.

The scammer appealed through Sompa FM for help in locating the woman so he can refund the money and end his ordeal.

The case has reignited concerns over the rising wave of mobile money fraud in Ghana. In a related cautionary tale, the Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohunu, once revealed that inmates of the Nsawam Prison had unknowingly targeted him in a similar scheme.
