AS Monaco defender Mohammed Salisu will be sidelined for Friday night's Ligue 1 encounter with Lille after picking up a hamstring injury during Ghana's 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan.

The injury occurred in Tuesday's match in Libya, where Salisu struggled, eventually being substituted after being outpaced by a Sudanese forward, sparking concerns about his fitness.

Salisu has been pivotal for Monaco this season, playing a crucial role in their strong start to the campaign, which included a memorable 2-1 Champions League victory over Barcelona.

The 24-year-old even scored his first Champions League goal in a game against Dinamo Zagreb just before the international break.

However, his performances for the Black Stars in the two matches against Sudan were less impressive, drawing criticism from some quarters, with questions raised about his ability to consistently replicate his club form on the international stage.

Salisu’s absence is a significant setback for Monaco, especially with their top position in Ligue 1 at stake.

As the extent of his injury remains uncertain, Monaco is yet to provide updates on his recovery and potential return to action.
