National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale Central, Hon. Innusa Fusieni has diffused claims made by the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Joseph Osei-Owusu regarding Mining Licensing and it operations in the country.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawmaker for Bekwai has disclosed that currently, Parliament frowns on approval for licensing of small scale mining activities therefore, unlawful for people to engage in the business.

“Parliament has not approved concession for these small scale miners”, Hon. Joseph Osei-Wusu disclosed October this year on Kumasi-based Abusua FM.

Speaking to the disclosure made by the First Deputy Speaker on the same network a month after, Hon. Innusa Fuseini, an astute lawyer said, his collegue MP also a lawyer is wrong.

The former Minister of Lands and Natural Resources explains small scale mining is legal in Ghana therefore Ghanaians with requisite mining license can mine the country's natural resources.

"We legalized small scale mining activities around 1990s even under PNDC rule so it is part of our laws now", Hon. Innusa Fusieni pointed out.

"So small scale mining is not illegal", arguing that the NPP government is taking small scale miners in the country for granted.

"It is mind boggling that government is extending the ban to another three months. I cannot fathom this decision", the former minister and current lawmaker told host Kwame Adinkra.
