Minister of Information, Dr. Mustapha Hamid, has criticized persons who have taken to social media to circulate the images about the travel details contained in the passport of former President John Dramani Mahama.

According to the former University of Cape Coast lecturer, confidential documents of public figures should not be used to score political points under no circumstances.

Speaking on Accra based ClassFM, Dr. Hamid stated that the act should be condemned irrespective of the individual involved.

He said; “We should begin as a nation to draw limits on things that we can use for political advantage and things that when we indulge in will damage our collective moral standing as a nation. I think President Mahama’s passport flying on social media, quite frankly I am not one of the people who is excited about it”

The images of the passport of Former President Mahama emerged on social media after he was alleged to have been kicked out of Sierra Leone after he was accused to be a key rigging conspirator for one of the parties in the recently ended elections.

Mr. Mahama in a lengthy and detailed Facebook post denied the allegations leveled against him. read more here:  http://ghanaguardian.com/s-leone-polls-i-didnt-conspire-to-rig-elections-mahama-refutes-allegations

Dr. Hamid further indicated that members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) attacked him when he earlier condemned the act of circulating private documents of public persons.

He stated; “When I said that I was outraged about people putting certain stuff on social media, NDC elements came at me and said that it is legitimate. Today, a former President who basically is the fulcrum around whom the NDC party runs has had his documents all over on social media and they are outraged.

“Really and truly I think there are certain matters that we must come to a consensus about as a nation that they are not good and if they are not good they are not good, putting people’s official documentation and documents that are not meant for social media and so on in the public space,” he added
