Freddie Blay, the acting Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said that persons found guilty by the Special Prosecutor will be granted legal representation. According to him, the chambers will welcome without discrimination with regards to party affiliations of any kind.

Mr Blay further stated that his chambers will be ready to represent any accused person of corruption by the Office of the Special Prosecutor.

He said his legal firm will willingly represent anyone identified to be connected to corruption of any sort by the Special Prosecutor.

He made the statement while speaking to Asempa FM yesterday. He further added that it is of no interest to him to see people identified by acts of corruption.

This comes up After President Nana Akufo-Addo appended his signature to the Office of the Special Prosecutor(OSP) bill, turning it to a law.The National Democratic Congress, (NDC), which happens to be the nation's largest opposition group as it stands now raised protests against the creation of the OSP with the claims that it is targeted at members of the NDC.

Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the General Secretary of the NDC said that the appointment of an NPP member as the Prosecutor will be tantamount to a waste of the nation's "time and resources".

In a response to these claims, Blay said that the house of Parliament would thoroughly vet the nominees and as such the appointment process would be as transparent as possible.

"We want to make it independent just like in other countries. We all have to work towards that to make sure it succeeds, " he said.

He however gave the assurance that no one, not even the president of the country, can dictate to the Special Prosecutor.
