Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram constituency, Samuel Nartey George has said lack of adequate funding for the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), is adversely affecting the work of the state agency.

According to him, NADMO which is one of the most poorly financed organization in Ghana is handicapped in responding effectively whenever there are natural disasters.

“NADMO is one of the most poorly funded organizations, NADMO is always owing. This organization is constantly owing its suppliers, it is embarrassing. I sat on Good Morning Ghana, hosted by Randy Abbey, six weeks ago with the Deputy Minister for Works and Housing and we raised the issue of flooding, he gave a spirited defense from a political perspective but I could understand his difficulty, because I have worked as a civil servant in the Ministry of Works and Housing before. He kept talking about the fact that drainage contracts were been awarded, mentioning figures here and there and his explanations were not valid enough.” He said on Morning Starr on Starr FM Friday.

He added that, in other countries such organizations are the most well-funded because they know how relevant it is in their country, comparing the USA’s Federal Emergency Management Authority (FEMA) to Ghana’s NADMO, which he claimed they both perform the same function.

“The state of NADMO has nothing to do with the NPP, I’m not being political here because it was the same under the NDC. If we have any other party to come into government, it will be the same thing unless we change.” He said.
