Former Member of Parliament (MP) for the Akwatia Constituency in the Eastern Region, Baba Jamal, has stated that the office of the Minister of State in charge of National Security must be scrapped because it’s of “no use”.

According to him, the ministry was deliberately created by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to fulfill is infamous ‘all die be die’ comment made in 2011 prior to the 2012 General Elections.

Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’, the former MP said the office of National Security is rather unearthing “hooligans” than ensuring peace in the country.

His comment comes after the Minister of State in charge of National Security; Mr Bryan Acheampong admitted that the 'masked' gunmen involved in the shooting incident at La-Bawaleshie during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election on Thursday, 31 January 2019 were National Security operatives.

Mr. Acheampong noted that, the men were deployed based on reliable information to his outfit concerning the by-election at the Bawalashie polling centre.

The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) pulled out of the election due to the shooting incident.

During the melee, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George was also assaulted by the hooded and totally masked security operatives.

The Ghana Police Service has said it has mounted investigations to identify the masked men.

But, Baba Jamal has questioned why the police have not made any arrest – “I am surprise, why can’t they arrest people?”

“If Nana Addo really wants peace in this country, then the people must be brought to book,” he told host Kwesi Aboagye.
