The Students Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Ghana has announced that the management of the school is working to get personnel from the office of National Security to patrol the campus in Legon, following an attack on a final-year student on Sunday night (5 May 2019).

Mr Daniel Osei was attacked by armed men along the road to Evandy hostel from Pentagon on the Legon campus.

The victim, who was butchered and sustained several cutlass wounds on his head, has been admitted to the 37 Military Hospital.

Reports say his assailants fled after the incident.

The SRC, in a statement, said it is saddened by the news of the attack on Mr Osei and announced that: “As a matter of urgency, all street lights on campus are being worked on. Also, the university management is working hand in hand with the national security to increase patrols on campus starting 5 May 2019”.

The statement said the Vice-Chancellor has also led a delegation to visit the victim at the 37 Military Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.

The students have been encouraged to remain calm and prepare towards their exams as the SRC works hand in hand with the management of the university to ensure their safety.
