Michael Owusu, a class two pupil of the Atatem D/A School in the Adansi Asokwa District of the Ashanti Region, has been inspired by the staff of the Adansi Asokwa NCCE, for designing a nose mask with paper and rubber band.

This was after the team visited the school on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, to commemorate the NCCE's "Citizenship Week".

Citizenship Week is a flagship annual programme by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) that targets young citizens in basic schools across the country. During this period, the NCCE together with resource persons visits schools to interact with pupils on their civic rights and responsibilities.

NCCE team arrive at Atatem

Upon seeing the team's arrival at the Atatem D/A School, the 8-year-old boy quickly rushed to his classroom and made for himself a paper nose mask.

His swift innovative skills followed the demand by the NCCE team that all the pupils should put on their nose masks before they interact with them on the Citizenship Week celebration.

Shortly after the team had started speaking to his seniors, Michael Owusu came from his classroom to show what he's got.

Impressive, he had no nose mask and decided to design for himself one with paper and a rubber band.

Michael posed for a picture beaming with smiles signifying how proud he was to be innovative.

Impressed by his innovation, the in charge of the Adansi Asokwa NCCE, Mr. George Amponsah Boateng (SCEO), commended Michael and inspired him to continue being crafty.

He, however, advised him not to use a paper-made nose mask as according to him, it cannot serve the purpose of trapping viruses and germs, especially the novel coronavirus.

Other team members, Lily Ampofoa Annor (PFO) and Fredrick Akuamoah (ACEO) also appreciated the skills put out by the youngster and encouraged him to be more innovative to be a great asset to mother Ghana in the future.
