A member of the National Democratic Congress   has accused the vice Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party(NNP) Dr Mahmud Bawumia of vote buying in the Zongo community, describing it as an exercise in futility.

Alhaji  Mohammed Mutawakilu , who is the Central regional Coordinator of the NDC  Zongo Caucus,  says  information gathered by  his office indicated Dr Bawumia and the wife have been visiting the zongo communities  trying to buy their votes.

"Am telling Bawumia and the NPP that they  are dealing with people who are so intelligent with utmost integrity. You can't buy the conscience of  these people,"he said.

"I will advise them to channel their money into charity since that could fetch them some blessings. But if their  aim is  to buy votes in the Zongos,  then they should forget it because it will not yield any result.it will be   an exercise in futility."

Alhaji Mutawakilu , popularly known as Alhaji MM described   the Zongo community  as a  property of the NDC and the people will continue to show appreciation to the NDC  for what the party has done for them.He says the people are satisfied with the kind of recognition the NDC gives them.

"The NDC is a party that is not selective. This party unlike the NPP doesn't encourage nepotism. Our party has always tried to engage all Ghanaians regardless of their ethnic group,"  he said

"The people are acutely aware of the dangerous nature of the NPP. They saw it when the NPP came to power in the year 2000.My only advise to Bawumia and his wife is that they should not waste their time thinking they can buy votes in the zongos they will end up wasting their time and money."

Alhaji Mutawakilu believes it will be more of a blessing for Bawumia to donate to charity than to pay money expecting the people to vote for the NPP.

The Zongos communities  are considered strongholds of the  NDC as the party derives a lot of support from the  people and NDC Zongo Caucus is on the ground galvanising votes for the NDC and President John Dramani Mahama to continue another four- year term in office.

However the NPP is counting on its vice presidential candidate, a Muslim from the northern part of Ghana, to draw more support from the Zongo  which is by  Muslims, especially those from the northern part of Ghana.
