Today Wednesday, 24 July 2019 marks the seventh anniversary of  the death of Late President John Evans Atta Mills.

To commemorate the day, the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced a wreath-laying ceremony at the Asomdwe Park, where he was buried, in Accra.

As a result, the NDC said its vetting of parliamentary aspirants, which begins today, has been rescheduled for Thursday, 25 and Friday, 26 July 2019

Prof John Evans Atta Mills served as President of Ghana from 2009 to 2012.

He was inaugurated on 7 January 2009, having defeated the then-governing party candidates Nana Akufo-Addo in the 2008 national elections.

Previously, he was the Vice-President from 1997 to 2001 under President Jerry John Rawlings, and he stood unsuccessfully in the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections as the candidate of the NDC.

He is the first Ghanaian President to die in office.
