Ahead of the National Democratic Congress’ [NDC] upcoming parliamentary primaries, the party’s Chief Scribe, Johnson Asiedu Nketia has urged delegates to vote for more women to represent the ‘Umbrella’ family in parliament.

He said the party must ensure that more women are voted for to engage in decision making in parliament.

“We are aspired to have a place where there will be gender equality so that decisions that affect everybody will be taken by all,” he said when aspiring NDC MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Suzzy Afua Adoboe and Klottey Korle MP, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings called on him at his office.

Asiedu Nketia told the duo that as a socialist, “I feel embarrassed when other countries feel proud about their gender participation in parliament. I feel ashamed. I wish there could have been a better way to bring more women in parliament.”

“We can only appeal to our delegates to vote for more women to represent the party in parliament,” he said after endorsing Suzzy Afua Adoboe and Dr. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings.

The National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) upcoming parliamentary primaries will be held in 157 constituencies across the country.

524 aspirants have been cleared to contest in the polls come Saturday, August 24, 2019.

The party also says it has put on hold elections at the Asawase and Ellembelle constituencies as well as three other constituencies due to petitions by some of the aspirants.

Meanwhile, there will be no election in 39 constituencies where incumbent Members of Parliaments (MPs) and aspirants are contesting unopposed.
