The National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it will conduct a thorough audit of ballot booklets set for destruction in the Western and Eastern Regions.

In a post on Facebook, the NDC’s Director of IT and Research, Dr Edward Omane said the move is to ensure transparency due to the huge volume of ballots involved.

“Considering the volumes involved, the said destruction of ballot papers cannot take place today,” he stated. The audit aims to ensure that all materials are accounted for, maintaining integrity in the electoral process,” portions of the post read.

The decision follows the Electoral Commission(EC)’s recall and reprint of ballot papers in the two regions ahead of the Special Voting exercise on December 2 over breach of security seals.

Emphasising the need for vigilance, he mentioned that the EC had lost public trust.

“The Commission must never forget they lost our trust long ago,” he remarked, reinforcing the need for rigorous oversight of electoral operations.
