Newly posted teachers threaten protest over salary delays
9th September 2025
A group calling itself the Aggrieved Newly Posted Teachers has served notice of a planned demonstration on September 23, 2025, to demand the release of their long-overdue salaries.
The teachers, made up of graduates from Colleges of Education and universities, say they have gone without pay for 12 months and 8 months, respectively.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra, the group’s Lead Convener, Simon Kofi Nartey, described the situation as unbearable.
“Many of us have defaulted on rent payments, our utility bills keep piling up, and even meeting daily needs like food and healthcare has become impossible. Sadly, some colleagues have lost their lives under these harsh circumstances,” he lamented.
The group is appealing directly to President John Dramani Mahama, urging him to step in and ensure the Ministry of Finance releases funds for the immediate payment of their arrears.
They warned that if their staff ID numbers are not issued, validation completed, and salaries paid by the end of September, they will embark on a “massive protest” through the main streets of Accra to express their frustration.
