The Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Samuel Annor has hinted on plans by the authority to prosecute persons found to have been involved in various acts of corruption and misappropriation of funds.

According to Dr. Annor, the move has been necessitated to improve efficiency and reduce fraud at the authority.

He added that it forms part of the stringent measures the scheme is adopting to re-structure on four pillars to fully implement electronic claims management

He said: “We are putting up this crack team and we’ll give it a name, for now, I don’t know but now we are putting the four directorates that deal with these internal police force and prosecutions also with external support from the doctors, nurses, pharmacists, to also join the team to be able to go out there and find out exactly what is going on.

“So, we are going to put a crack team together and that team will also be trained properly by the Attorney General and the BNI and the CID for them to know exactly what to look for when they go out there, so, all these things will be unfolding before the end of year.”

Some officials of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) have been under investigation by the internal audit division, for various acts of corruption.
