New Spain International, Nico Williams has revealed how he go to know that he has been handed a call-up to play for the La Furia Rojas.

The 19-year-old winger was handed a call-up by Spain head coach Luis Enrique in their final two matches of the UEFA Nations League.

Nico Williams is the younger brother of new Black Stars striker Inaki Williams and was on the horizon of the Ghana FA after his brother switched nationality.

In July this year, Inaki Williams decided to switch nationality to play for Ghana after turning down Ghana several times and making a single appearance for Spain.

Nico had the chance to play for the country of his parents but has opted for Spain.

 "I was calm on the sofa at home like one more day than we have free at Athletic and many congratulatory messages began to arrive on my mobile, I didn’t understand why, I got into sefutbol out of curiosity and it appeared on the list … I couldn’t believe it, I started screaming at home, my mother came to hug me, to cry like my father. I am very happy to be here."

Born in Basque to Ghanaian immigrant parents, the younger William like his elder brother made his debut for Spain on Saturday in their 2-1 UEFA Nations League defeat to Switzerland.

He came on shortly after Breel Embolo had squeezed home Manuel Akanji's pass from a corner to make it 2-1 for the away side.

Williams whose elder brother Inaki made his Ghana debut on Friday against Brazil came in the 63rd minute as a replacement for Pablo Sarabia in Saturday's match.
